Yet another Spanish gas station...

Two more scares today. First, jason's machine wasn't firing right at low revs, and getting worse. This is potentially dangerous on a bike because sudden power loss when you're leaning over through a bend can be, erm, risky. In a tarmac-surfing kind of way. Thankfully the problem has fully cleared and it's running fine - we reckon a tank of low-grade moroccan fuel is the culprit. Second, I nearly just had a central reservation for lunch after riding through a strip of sticky oil on the road. It was all over the front tyre, which meant sudden zero grip as soon as I leaned into a bend. It was exhilarating, mainly, in a turtle sort of way. So with these problems now sorted we have 110 more miles to cover to the next camp site, which means a good night's sleep and 420 tomorow back toward Santander. Perhaps a couple of beers tonight. Total 2150 miles now covered.

  3. There are now at the camp site (arrived about 21:00 UK time), have passed through some terrific scenery, but some of the roads were a little straight ad boring. They left the last base about 15:00hrs today and have completed about 240 miles. Rest of the journey Wed and Thurs should be a cruise, all going well.

  5. This is the base for tonoght..

    Boys info for campsite:

Camping Mérida Ref A on map
    Mérida, Extremadura

Camping Mérida is situated alongside the main N-V road to Madrid, the restaurant, café and pool complex separating the camping site area from the road where there is considerable noise. The site has 80 good sized pitches, most with some shade and on sloping ground, with ample electricity connections (long leads may be needed) and hedges with imaginative topiary. No English is spoken, but try out your Spanish. Reception is open until midnight. Camping Mérida is ideally located to serve both as a base to tour the local area or as an overnight stop en route when travelling either north/south or east/west.
